Facialmask Review: Facial – Wine Sheet Mask (Non-Korean)

These days you get more products here from Asia, like sheet masks. So I was wondering it was as good as a Korean sheet mask.
South-Korea is famous for it’s skincare and I wanted to test this but how? Well, I have found two wine inspired sheet masks and today we are going to test if the Korean sheet masks are still better or is it worth to try to experiment with other ones?

This mask helps for premature skin aging and it contains wine extract. I can’t get more info because I bought it in a store and you can’t get it online.

When I opened the package I immediately could recognize the smell: artificial grape. It wasn’t at all intense but if you have eaten Japanese of Korean grape candy then you know what I mean. This was quite pleasant...

Japan New Year

New Year, 正月 shogatsu, is the most important holiday in Japan. Most businesses shut down from January 1 to January 3, and families typically gather to spend the days together. Every year is an other year, which means that the years ars completely separate. Every year begins with a fresh start. So they have bonenkai parties with the purpose of leaving the old year’s worries and troubles behind. Homes and entrance gates are decorated with ornaments. On New Year’s eve toshikoshi soba, symbolizing longevity, are served.

January 1 is a very favourable day, best started by viewing the new year’s first sunrise, and traditionally believed to be representative for the whole year that has just commenced...

Japan Markt Leiden

On the 15th of May, the Japan market was in Leiden! I went there with my mom, who also likes the Japanese culture.
At that time we had to take the bus because of the maintenance of the railways around Utrecht. After a long trip we finally arrived in Leiden. It was very funny to see all the people who were planning to go to the market. You could see by their appearence who was going.

Japanmarkt

The market was very long and had very different stands. Anime, food, cultural and more. It was very busy when we were there, but I visited all of the stands. I especially liked the stand with second hand stuff. They were going to donate most of the money for the tsunami and the earthquake which made it even more convincing to buy from them.

I think, if you love the culture of Japan, you would a...

Charlotte’s review: Geek in Japan

As we know, Japan isn’t all about manga and anime. But most of us don’t know or just don’t want to know more about the culture of Japan. But, if you want to learn more, Geek in Japan is a good book. It talks about a anime culture, work culture, food and a lot more. It isn’t a guidebook that you could take with you in Japan, but more of a culture guide book for us otaku’s. It’s written for the people who grew up with Pokemon, manga and videogames, better to say, us internet users who wants to learn more about the culture and hopefully travel there one day.

In the beginning the book discusses the history of Japan briefly...

Pocky and Pepero

Valentine’s day is over and you’ve got some pocky from your loved ones ( or you bought it for yourself). You look at it and think: ‘Where is it even coming from? And what is the difference between Pepero and Pocky?’

Pocky new package
‘Sukky’ comes from ‘suki’ which means love and pocky.  But for us forneigers, it’s quite funny.

And what is the history of pocky? And pepero?

Well if you keep reading you will know!

The orginal chocolate covered biscuit was first sold in 1966. The name ‘Pocky’ comes from the sound that you make when you eat it, which is pokkin. In 1976 the original was followed by the (all mighty) almond coating, and in 1977 the strawberry coating came out. Nowadays you have all sorts of flavors like milk, mouse, matcha (green tea), honey, cookies and cream, and many more flavors...

Charlotte’s Review: Kaomoji (◕‿◕)

I thought: I haven’t done a review in a very long time. so here it is!

Today we are going to talk about the online clothes store kaomoji!

Kaomoji

Kaomoji is run by two Dutch graphic designers who love Japanese culture, anime , manga and, ofcourse, fashion! The name kaomoji means japanese smileys. They chose this name, because fashion makes them happy, sad, loved, lazy and crazy.
They express themselves in the way they dress. It all started with designing t-shirts for themselves. They are inspired by watching anime, reading manga and loving Japan. They started to put their designs on the internet and got a lot of positive reactions on it, so they started a shop! From a hobby they turned it into an otaku fashion statement.

In 2015 I ordered the limited edition world hoodie...

Interview with Cherry Pie Maid Café!

I have seen Cherry Pie Maid Café in action for a while now, from where they began till now. So it was time to interview their manager, Sky, to find out more about Cherry Pie Maid Café!

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Esmée, although I prefer to go by Sky, and among other things, I’m the manager of Cherry Pie Maid Café!

How did you come to the idea to start a maidcafé?

I visited other cafés at conventions and I absolutely loved it. The whole experience really inspired me to take the concept and try to take it to the next level. I had a lot of ideas, and when a friend suggested I should start my own café I thought; why not?

What makes this maid cafe different from other cafés? (Besides having cute and original outfits)

Based on simply facts, I believe we’re currently th...

Abunai Haul!

Last weekend was the Anime convention Abunai!

If you go to an Anime convention, you always have to spend some money. Although you didn’t bring any money or you didn’t want to spend that much, there are some people who don’t have that problem. Of all the years going to an anime convention I never spend that much. So that’s why I  amgoing to show what I bought to you and give a review about some of the stuff.

This time, I had some missions. As I have a lot of small figurines, I had the plan to buy bigger ones this time. Second mission: Since I’m such a Sailor Moon fan and I couldn’t read the manga further ( because of the weird parts in the chapters online, if you read it online you will know) I wanted to buy the manga. The last mission was Ramune curry...
